Haivision Announces SRTHub for Microsoft Azure
Posted on Wednesday, April 3, 2019

Haivision, a leader in video streaming solutions, today announced SRTHub, a new media routing cloud service that enables broadcasters to securely and reliably transport live video globally for contribution, production, and distribution workflows.

SRTHub streamlines field contribution by routing media from IoT-connected video encoders to production facilities, and enables low latency live streaming and fast file transfer using the SRT protocol and Microsoft Azure. This reduces complexity and shortens time-to-air for breaking news and live events content.

SRTHub also delivers scalable and intelligent routing of live linear 24/7 channels and live events for distribution to OTT data centers or affiliates. In combination with Azure’s global reach, network quality and network capacity, SRTHub provides broadcasters a cost-effective and agile alternative to satellite transmission.

“SRTHub makes it easy for broadcasters to spin up streams from anywhere in the world so that they can flexibly transport live news and events content to production centers across the globe,” said Peter Maag, Chief Marketing Officer, Haivision. “SRTHub takes full advantage of the latest capabilities of Microsoft Azure and is based on a fully automated and scalable architecture, so broadcasters can integrate their current workflows and benefit from using SRT in the cloud.”

Powered by the SRT protocol and Azure, SRTHub leverages the public internet and Azure containers to intelligently route media across the Azure backbone between any of the 52 Azure regions located worldwide. Furthermore, SRTHub also takes advantage of the Microsoft IoT framework for discovery, provisioning, and communication with paired devices such as encoders and gateways.

“SRTHub and Microsoft Azure will enable broadcasters and studios to transport live and on-demand video content globally with low latency and increased security and reliability,” said Sudheer Sirivara, General Manager, Azure Media, Microsoft Corp. “We’re excited to work with SRTHub to provide native connectors for Azure Media Services and enable an open ecosystem of partners so customers can more easily build world-class media contribution, live routing, and delivery workflows.”

SRTHub can route media into and out of third-party broadcast systems through connectors, called Hublets, that extend the platform’s capabilities. SRTHub will provide an open partner ecosystem enabling any partner to build Hublets for SRTHub on Azure.
