Maryland elementary school hopes technology funding will reach its target
Posted on Monday, February 13, 2012

Snow Hill Elementary School in Maryland will receive $100,000 from Target as part of retail giant's goal to donate $1 billion for education by 2015, according to a recent report.

In total, 50 schools nationwide were selected under the Target initiative, and Snow Hill plans to upgrade its technology infrastructure with the new funding.

According to the news provider, principal Denise Shorts said that a consensus decision was made between faculty members and administrators that new classroom technology would be the most appropriate route. Of the laptops that Snow Hill does have, only half work without some issues.

Laptops are certainly a useful classroom tool, but technology has quickly advanced in recent years. Devices such as a tablet computer, an interactive whiteboard or a DLP projector can help schools equip their students with the latest educational technology.

The DelmarvaNow report said that Snow Hill technology coach Maryellen Nugent sent Target a one-page form that includes a list of funding initiatives the school would use with the grant.

"Local schools have found funding technology difficult in recent years, the county's technology funding is now just enough to cover software licensing fees," the report stated.
